Our business started 13 years ago as a simple hobby. I was making candles for my wife because I could not believe the prices she was paying for Yankee - TM candles.
It took me 6 months to develop my recipes to the point that she felt that my candle quality had surpassed theirs.
After a few months of candle making, I decided to try to sell a few out of our old barn on Saturday afternoons.
Guess what? After our 12th christmas season this year we have exceeded over $6,000,000.00 in candle sales!
Many of our customers have asked us for supplies and candlemaking instructions.
Whats the deal on our unusual price guarantee? You see, we only sell what we use in our own factory. We are constantly testing new products. We are always looking to improve, not save money. We only have one wax formula. Most websites have many different waxes. Why? Because they make more money on the blends and try to convince you that it holds scent better, or 'throws' scent better. This is a load of ________!
What you need is a pure, fully refined base wax - period! You may need two different melt points, one for containers, votives, tealights and one for pillars. To this base you add the modern chemicals needed for candlemaking. We've developed 'the pill' for you to do this. Simply add one 'pill' to each 10# slab of wax needed. You now have all the additives professionally formulated to our secret recipe. This gives you the ability to 'superscent'. It improves release, hardness, gives brighter colors and provides U/V protection.
We have tested all the wicks and provide the best wick for crafters and all pourpose candlemaking. Our tabs are custom made for crafters. The hole is bigger to make it easier to feed and crimp. The neck is slightly longer to extinguish the candle automatically with about 1/16th of an inch of wax left. This is a major safety improvement.
Our colors are a new producted developed in Germany. It is a flake product that contains no pigments that clog the wick so dark colors do not impeed the wicks burning. It is expensive, but is easy to work with, is not messy and a little goes a long way.
The jars are Ball canning jars. Canning jars are made to take heat and are cheaper than apothecary jars. They do a great job and our customers love the old fashion look.
Finally - the scent! This is where it's at when you talk about quality candles. The expertise of the perfumer or chemist in 'marrying' the chemicals properly is what determines the release and actual smell you get when burning the candle. Scents sold on the web are concentrated ready to use when bought by the distributor. Some will add more base oil to get the price down. Some will add alcohol to make it smell better in the bottle. The smell out of the bottle can be very different than the smell the candle puts out. To save on shipping, a distributor can buy scent "keys". A key is the scent super concentrated. It is intended for the distributor to add carrier oils at their warehouse. We purchase only scent 'keys' from the perfumer and that is what we sell to you. We use the key directly as is and do not add the remaining carrier oils to them. This gives a cleaner burning candle. You can use as little as 2% scent and get great results. Use up to 5% and the neighbors will come over and ask whats cooking! We suggest crafters start at 1/2 oz. per pound of wax.
